Sponsor A Teacher

The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way

Public schools in Ethiopia have a very low standard of education and the private schools, where the education is better, are overcrowded and overpriced.

A quality education is a luxury in Ethiopia and may be one of the only things that can break the cycle of poverty. So what is a poor and underprivileged child to do when they are stuck in the cycle of poverty, unable to afford the one thing that could free them?

In November of 2008, Blessing the Children saw this need and decided to take action. We started construction on the first phase of the BCI Academy – a school that would offer an affordable, quality education to the poor and underprivileged children of Debre Zeyit. Now, seven years later, the BCI Academy is complete and providing a quality education, extracurricular activities, and breakfast and lunch programs for children in grades K – 9.

The BCI Academy is being used as a vehicle to help break the cycle of poverty in Ethiopia and we couldn’t do it without our amazing teachers.
Teacher’s have such an important job and the teaching staff of a school can either make or break it. As Brad Henry said, “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.”

These are the kind of teachers we want and need at the BCI Academy, to lead our children to a successful future. Unfortunately, these are types of teachers needed at every school and they are in high demand. Because the BCI Academy is run for the sole purpose of providing a quality education for free or a low cost to children in need, we can’t afford to pay these teachers what the local private schools can.

Regardless, many our amazing teachers have stuck with us, even though they could go elsewhere for a better wage. Their hearts and passion for the children is a beautiful thing and we would like to reward them.

We would like subsidize our top three teachers with $48/mo.
Would you invest in a teacher as they so selflessly invest their time and energy into the children of DZ? Would you sponsor a teacher and in turn, sponsor an entire class of children?!

Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring these three teachers so check out our blog to read their stories! You can donate online, via mail or phone!
