Marta is a smart, hardworking 10 year old that lives with her mother, grandmother, and her aunt. Tragically, four months ago, her younger sister and only sibling passed away. Two years before that her father died. After her father’s death, her mother struggled to make ends meet for her girls and Marta’s grandmother took them in. She owns the house they live in and is giving them space to stay.
Marta currently has a slight stomach issue where she loses her appetite most of the time and is unable to eat. The family wishes to take her to the doctors to get some answers and help as Marta has lost quite a bit of weight and her energy frequently dwindles. They are unable to seek help for Marta because of finances. Her mother’s job is very unstable job and she has been searching for another one with no luck.
Despite her stomach problem, Marta Teklu attends 4th Grade at BCI Academy and thoroughly enjoys her math classes. She enjoys math so much so that she wishes to be a math teacher when she grows up. She spends her time wisely, studying after school and preparing for the next school year’s lessons during the summer. Of course she also makes time for her friends, going to the library and playing football! Marta’s kind heart shows through as she tells us she loves when the New Year comes around in September so she that can draw on paper and give the hand made gifts to her neighbors.
